Distort & Explode by Scott Hefflon - Lollipop - www.lollipop.com

Punk rock’n’roll like Gaza Strippers, Supersuckers, and New Bomb Turks. Trigger are from Gothenburg, Sweden, and have some nice vintage harmonica and organ sounds mixed into the adrenaline-fueled, guitar-howling rock. The vocals sound kinda Payin’ the Dues-era Hellacopters to these ears, but that’s perhaps cuz they’re not too glammy, not to sugary, not too metal grunt, just kinda guy-lettin’-loose, not all huge like Cornell or clean like indie rock or pop-punk.
This is Trigger’s second full-length, having done a couple splits with Rickshaw, another solid rock band with good tunes you’d be doing yourself a favor to look into. Rickshaw’s latest is on Devil Doll, home to Totimoshi, some Electric Frankenstein CDs, and a few of those Fistful of Rock’n’Roll and Rock’n’Roll Au Go-Go comps, and that’s good company. Trigger has a distinct melodic influence I can’t peg, something British and ’70s r&b-inspired rock, a style that pounds on a piano and is catchy and singable without being at all, ya know, poofy… Smokin’, rippin’, poundin’ rock, but also tuneful without loosing head-bobability. Catch their whole set the next time these guys open for a name-brand band you wouldn’t miss for all the whisky in Tennessee.

Pure energy, released through screaming guitars, a stumping foundation, and a powerful voice. Foo Fighters, Hellacopters, and MC5 influences combined in raw, yet melodic songs. Some grunge-like songs, but mostly honest heavy rock and roll in the best tradition, and a laid back ballad-like song (“Understand”).Also a heavy folk interpretation, and a fabulous last song “Sister”, which is certainly worth mentioning because the terrific swing within all the heaviness, and great guitar performance.Although this album must have had some overdubs, with all those guitar layers, they have succeeded to keep a direct sound, without any overproduction. Guess it’s that directness that can catch people like me.

Hook heavy riff n' roll from Sweden, a country known for such things. Trigger do it right, with big freedom rawk choruses and guitars that switch from stuttering motorpunk to melodic, Thin Lizzy-esque wah-wah and Hellacoptering wham-bam. Unlike many of their brethren, Trigger are completely unconcerned with the devil, crazy motorcycles, hot rods to hell, or 17 minute stoner-blues jams about sasquatch, preferring to keep the party going with high energy odes to the glories of rock and roll and girls that make 'em go "Doot-Doo!" a lot. It's always Saturday night for Trigger, and "Distort and Explode" is a good way to waste away yours at high volume.

You can't work out what kind of music Trigger play by the cover of their demo cassette including five new songs from their upcoming album. I was pleasantly surprised when wonderful, swinging punk rock with a lot of attitude hit me straight from the speakers. Like a mixture of early Hellacopters raw energy and the latest Gluecifers boogie rock´n´roll. The raw opening track I can't stand it clears out my ears of today's shit and leaves me as happy as a boy who just lost his virginity. The following song Reckless heroes swings like hell. The last three songs are just as good. There's little more to do than to recommend everyone to check Trigger out for a dose of stone cold, raw and intense rock´n´roll music.
