CHILLIHOUNDS was formed in Gothenburg in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2005 and a few line-up changes later that the groups burning love for energetic classic hard rock began to take shape.
The band now consisted of Gabriel Aadland (vocals, rhythm guitar), Daniel Hessel (lead guitar), Carl Linnaeus (bass) and Stefan Johansson (drums). The group decided to ignore the garage punk rock sound that everyone was dabbling in during the time.
Instead they fine tuned the music they knew best – pure classic rock from the seventies.
The demo No Fashion, Just Rock’n’Roll received interest in the underground scene and the first album simply called The Album was released in early 2007 on Italian independent label Nicotine
Records. It got high critical acclaim in the European music press. Sweden Rock Magazine awarded The Album 9 out of 10 points
and said “If there’s any justice in the world, CHILLIHOUNDS ought to be an international hit”. Webzine Agony Zone stated:
“CHILLIHOUNDS performs as if their life depends upon it”. German magazine OX thought “Finally a singer who can sing, instead of sounding just like a V8 engine”. And so on. The first pressing o
The Album was sold out in a matter of months.
Due to different levels of commitment, Daniel Hessel parted ways with the band shortly after the release of The Album.Eri Bogren joined the group for a while and played numerous sweat drenched shows to help promote the record. The first bulk o material for the sophomore release was recorded with Bogren in May of 2008. Although a great guitarist, he didn’t share the same
take-no-prisoners-attitude the other members approached to their playing. They parted company with mutual respect.
After spending the summer searching for a permanent replacement they found Henrik Sahlqvist who got to flaunt his love for Ritchie Blackmore with the band. Together they went to Finland for a couple of shows before concluding the second album in February of 2009.
But guess what? Due to family reasons Henrik soon realized he didn’t have the time being a member of the band required.
Again the remaining members – still increasingly committed to their craft – spent the summer looking for a permanent lead guitarist who would fit the picture. They found Stefan Rasmusson. Beside understanding the true meaning of rock’n’roll, he comes from the same school of literally sleeping in a filthy rehearsal room.
Thus the quest for bringing organic and soulful rock’n’roll to the people continues. CHILLIHOUNDS is not the latest fad nor i it meant to catch on the retro hype. It’s simply music played with
lots of heart and passion by and for people who love the authentic rawness of AC/DC, DEEP PURPLE, TED NUGENT, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, STATUS QUO and ZZ TOP.
