Aus dem Osten Frankreichs kommen die Sparkling Bombs und servieren uns ebenfalls ihren Debüt Silberling. Die Einflüsse dieser Band sprechen dann auch direkt die Zielgruppe an.New York Dolls, Maniac Street Preaches, ja und wegen meiner auch die Sex Pistols. Auch hier wird das Rad nicht neu erfunden, doch die Gruppe klingt doch um einiges professioneller als andere Bands aus diesem Bereich. Wenn man noch ein wenig am Songwriting arbeitet und mehr Songs der Marke „Spattered Spider“ abliefert, ist da noch einiges an Luft nach oben.

SPARLKLING BOMBS really deserves to enter the circle of unanimously acclaimed bands, and they should enter it using the main door!
And if you're sceptical, Just listen to their 3 new songs on their MySpace page. Everything is said in a few minutes! A keen sense of what a chorus is, some deliciously sexy backing vocals, some finely chiselled guitar parts, a perfect rhythm section and a great singer! All of this with a production that fits the band's talent.
"Spray Paint Prayers" (finally an original album title!) is an album that explores more various atmospheres and moods than the previous SPARKLING BOMBS releases, and seems to give more importance to one of the main influences of the band, the MANIC STREET PREACHERS. Thus, it's no surprise to find "Motown Junk" putting an end to this album.

Secondo full-length per i francesi Sparkling Bombs, inizialmente additati come clone di Robin Black & The Intergalactic Rockstars, hanno via via guadagnato personalità e già con il precedente ep Diamond Skin sono riusciti a lasciarsi alle spalle qualsiasi accostamento con la band canadese. Oggi la formula appare rodata e la proposta rimasta pressoché invariata: sono dieci le canzoni che compongono Spray Paint Prayers, di cui nove originali e una dei Manic Street Preachers, “Motown Junk”, brano che si presta bene alle atmosfere oscure e malinconiche spruzzate di 70's glam del quintetto transalpino. Come songwriting la qualità pare costantemente assestata su livelli medio/alti, sebbene nessun pezzo raggiunga picchi clamorosi, ma l'assenza di filler è di per sé un pregio non comune. Le aperture melodiche ci sono, ma un difetto che da sempre attanaglia le composizioni della band è la mancanza di brani a effetto, di ritornelli memorabili da cantare a squarciagola, e anche questo disco risente dello stesso "problema". Chi apprezza i vecchi lavori avrà di che rallegrarsi con canzoni come “Birthday”, “Gun Metal Grey” (di cui è stato girato un videoclip), “Spattered Spider”, “Down”, “Boredom Legacy” e persino la più “sperimentale” “Purple Bubble Boogie”, che a tratti ricorda gli Enuff Z' Nuff. Un buon ritorno, da parte di uno dei pochi gruppi francesi dediti al glam/rock'n'roll.

'Spray Paint Prayers' is the third album released by French Glamsters Sparkling Bombs.
They play that poppy glam rock with strong 70's inspiration, and they play it really well!

To my ears Sparkling Bombs sound very reminiscent of fallen British 90's hopefuls, Last of The Great Dreams. They play a similar kind of music, which is refreshing. I love the deceptive opening track ' Beauty Hides The Lies' with its beautiful piano intro, other great offerings include 'Gun Metal Grey', 'Spatters Spider' the groovy 'Purple Bubble Boogie', 'Down' and 'Motown Junk'.

Sparkling Bombs are a great band, playing fun glitzy pop rock, a band you can thoroughly enjoy listening too! Nothing new really but fun just the same.
