Chilihounds kommen aus Schweden und gründeten sich 2003 in Göteborg. Es dauerte allerdings zwei Jahre bis das erste Demo der Band das Licht der Welt erblickte.
Im April 2007 folgte das Debüt-Album "The Album", mit dem die Band auf Nicotine Records gelandet waren. Jetzt gibts auf dem gleichen Label etwas mehr als drei Jahre später das zweite Album.
Das Cover lässt mich erstmal auf Psychodelic Rock
schließen (was vielleicht an den Farben liegen mag), aber das beschreibt die Musik von Chilihounds eigentlich gar nicht. Die Einflüsse liegen sicherlich auch in den 70ern, allerdings bewegt sich die Band eher im Hardrock
vermischt mit klassischem Rock'n'Roll. Knackig Gitarren-riffs und -solos werden hier aber auch schonmal durch Funk-Einlagen aufgelockert und für Abwechslung sorgt natürlich auch der letzte Akustik-Song "Thank You and Goodnight". Die zehn Songs rocken jedenfalls ordentlich und wer auf Kiss und/oder AC/DC steht, sollte auch hier
mal reinhören ...

Secondo album per i rocker svedesi Chillihounds e nuova razione di ruvido e robusto rock’n’roll dai molteplici rimandi, quasi una cavalcata lungo la storia del genere.

Capita così di passare dal più classico boogie sudista a momenti sensuali screziati di blues, dall’hard rock settantiano alla ballad elettrica venata di malinconia, il tutto legato dal piglio irriverente e sguaiato di questi alfieri dell’hard-rock’n’roll. Lo spirito è quello che si agita in ciò che una volta definivamo hard-rock, qui corrotto dal demone della musica del diavolo per eccellenza e completamente avulso da ogni connotazione epico/metallara, piuttosto si flirta con l’attitudine sleazy e con gli eroi più duri della Los Angeles cotonata. Si provi ad immaginare un ibrido tra Ted Nugent e i Cinderella alle prese con le cover dei classici del rock, immerse in una soluzione di whisky, adrenalina e spirito d’avventura. Tutto gira a dovere e la scrittura non lascia nulla al caso, l’unico neo è che manca un pizzico di lerciume da bassifondi nel suono per raggiungersi la perfezione, ogni accordo si ferma al momento giusto e le note non sbavano sullo spartito, il che fa perdere un briciolo di realismo al tutto. Per capirsi, siamo più vicini ai Lynyrd Skynyrd che non agli Stooges, il che non è detto che sia per forza un difetto, ma serve ad inquadrare le coordinate di un album ideale per viaggiare (fisicamente o con la fantasia poco conta) e che ha i vasti panorami degli States nel dna. I Chillihounds sanno come si costruisce un brano solido e dal tiro giusto, non eccedono mai con le citazioni e, soprattutto, riescono ad aggiungere un piglio personale al tutto. Anche in questo caso vale il motto: It’s only rock’n’roll but I like it!

Hace unos días, Carl Linnaeus ex-Rickshaw, banda que nunca me cansaré de reivindicar como una de las mas grandes que ha dado Suecia, me envió un mensaje en el que me invitaba a conocer a su banda actual. Me dirigí a su myspace, y el flechazo fué instantáneo.
Fusión perfecta entre los clásicos de los 70 de Hard Rock y las bandas más actuales de escandinávia. No me lo podía creer, otra banda de Suecia que me provocaba uan emoción dificil de describir, otra vez enamorado y cuando aún mi cama estaba caliente por el ardor de otras bandas.
Busco sin descanso su disco y me encuentro que sus demos son descargables gratuitamente en su web, primera alegría, pero su disco no aparece. Lo tengo claro, tengo que escribir a Carl para pedirle un original, pero mientras llega, aparece por fín el disco, y no me decepciona, al contrario, consigue emocionarme más aún. Tras solicitar su permiso para compartirlo con vosotros, me llevo la siguiente sorpresa, preparan nuevo album. Es increíble, puedo disfrutar de cantidad de temas de una banda que desconocía y de los que uno tras otro me ponen los pelos de punta.
Chillihounds han desarrollado su propio estilo dentro del Rock’n’Roll Escandinavo, no se parecen a ninguno de sus hermanos, pero suena como cualquiera de ellos, ¿incongluencia?, escuchalos y juzga tu mismo, son especiales y diferentes, pero suenan a clásicos.
Los Chillihounds son un puñetero monstruo de cuatro cabezas, son una máquina bien engrasada de R’n’R, que vienen a cargarse ese futuro ”prometedor” de la música que nos envuelve, sin corazón, sin pasión, pero lo que ellos desprenden es energía y emoción. Apuntan alto y seguro que no fallan.

CHILLIHOUNDS from Sweden claim their love for classic rock on "Welcome To the Show", from Southern rock to AC/DC influenced hard rock and early glam rock, this sounds like a hell of a show, doesn't it? The songs on here are quite catchy ("Hello! Hello! Hello!", "(Meet me) On The Rocks") and should definitley make you want to dance and grab the nearest beer around!
70s groovy rock can also be found on "Lady Pink" as well as Texas boogie à la ZZ TOP ("Slave To Love".) As their song title "Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!" suggests, these guys are not here to change the music history but they sure do their job well. keep rockin'!

Sapori freschi dalla terra scandinava. Sapori di trascinante, genuino, hard boogie’n'roll fatto in casa, tra le nevi della Svezia. Il secondo album della band di Goteborg, ancora una volta pubblicato dalla ligure/specializzata Nicotine, trasuda voglia di divertimento e ottimo background. I Chillihounds non sono il massimo dell’estetica sonora, certo, ma addentrarsi nel loro “spettacolo” sarà cosa buona e giusta per gli indefessi nostalgici dell’hard rock ‘70. Foghat, ZZ Top, momenti pseudo-acustici rurali, una voce molto vicina al penultimo Ian Astbury, brevità d’insieme. Ingranata la prima e spinto il tasto play. E il gioco è fatto.

Die CHILLIHOUNDS haben sich voll und ganz dem Partyrock der 70er Jahre verschrieben. Das fängt schon bei der Optik an. Das violette Cover ihrer aktuellen Scheibe "Welcome To The Show" ist mit einem großflächigen Blumenmuster grundiert wie eine Tapete aus dem bunten Jahrzehnt, die CD selbst ist als LP gestaltet, und natürlich ist achtern die Titelliste in Seite A und B gegliedert. Die Hörer werden zu diesem Retrotrip mit 'Hello! Hello! Hello!' begrüßt und mit 'Thank You And Goodnight' verabschiedet.

Man kann bei "Welcome To The Show" überwiegend von Hardrock sprechen. Auf Grundlage von traditionellem Rock & Roll ist die Mucke aber so berechenbar und tanzbar, dass sie vermutlich auch beim Mainstreampublikum ankommen kann. In ihrem kräftigen Gute-Laune-Sound sind kleine(!) Zutaten KISS, SLADE, SUZI QUATRO und Konsorten eingerührt. Oder wie es die Band auf ihrer MySpace-Seite selbst formuliert: Sie klingen wie QUEEN, die STATUS QUO Manieren beibringen. Dass die CHILLIHOUNDS aus Schweden kommen, dürfte spätestens jetzt klar sein.

Die wuchtige Rhythmusgruppe treibt die Chose unbeirrt voran, ohne je eintönig zu werden. Die Gitarre bratzt knackige Riffs darüber und schert dann zu einer klassischem Rock & Roll-Brücke oder einem dampfenden Solo aus. Titel wie '(Meet Me) On The Rocks', 'Slave To Love' oder 'Night Time Is The Right Time' lassen keine Fragen offen. Für ein paar Variationen sorgen 'Lady Pink' mit lasziven Funkeinlagen, die Halbballade 'Sugar Lou' und der akustische Rausschmeißer. Einen interessanten Kontrapunkt auf diesem Album setzt die Stimme, die manchmal an Glenn Danzig erinnert oder wie der alte Johnny Winter knarzt!

Die CHILLIHOUNDS haben auf "Welcome To The Show" ein Menü einfach-mitreißender Partymucke angerichtet, das mit etwas Glück das Zeug zu einem Verkaufsschlager hat. Um langfristig zu bestehen, muss die Band aber unbedingt die Musik im Mittelpunkt haben. Denn schon DARKNESS und die HIVES mussten in den letzten Jahren die eindeutige Erkenntnis annehmen: Auch der beste Witz ist beim zehnten Mal nicht mehr lustig, aber gute Musik kann man sich immer wieder anhören.

Ten tracks from this Swedish band and, not having the slightest clue about who or what they were, I plopped the disc in the player and cranked the stereo up to 10 - to my suprise out fell some mighty fine tunes. 'Hello, Hello, Hello' came out of the blocks like a Supersucker or old school punker jamming with Angus and the boys on the breakdown rather than the policeman I was expecting; ello ello ello indeed.


A well recorded album with plenty of punch from the band, mixing up some early 70's rock like the MC5 with late 70's DC riffs and a fair bit of attitude all wrapped up in some pretty decent songwriting. The look and name of the band offers no clue as to their direction or sound but these bad boys rock it up with the best of them. 'Lady Pink' sees them break it down via a funk o metal carpet ride and very comfortable it is too. Not to get lulled into a false sense of security 'Slave To Love' kicks the living shit out of me speakers - this is good people, damn good in fact. 'Good Dog Gone Bad' sails pretty close to 'Powerage' acca dukka but that's fine because 'Powerage' was a great record and the singer sounds like Astbury did when The Cult went DC.


This album offers variety and contrast - Side B opens up with the nice countrified 'Sugar Lou' with a shared lead vocal. The swings in styles on the album aren't at all out of place and the variety is a nice balance rather than ten shit kicking anthems or ten laid back odes to the lady or the bottle. 'Mobile Lifestyle' sees the band chuck out a Stonesy riff and shuffle a la 'Honky Tonk Woman' which is cool.


So, in summary, this album took me by suprise and is a great introduction to the Chillihounds' world of rock 'n' roll....and a great place to be it is too. 'Night Time Is The Right Time' and 'Oh Yeah Oh Yeah' kick out the jams to bring this cd to the fitting finale of 'thank you and good night' and, as the acoustic guitar rings out for the last time, I hope to hear some more from this band and it isn't really goodnight.

Die CHILLIHOUNDS sind eine schwedische Rock ’n’ Roll-Formation, die nach ihrem Debüt „The Album“ nun mit ihrem zweiten Longplayer „Welcome To The Show“ am Start sind. Die Göteborger benötigten einige Jahre und einige Besetzungswechsel, um zu ihrem Stil zu finden. Nun aber haben sie sich und ihre Musik in den Bereichen 70er Jahre Classic Hard Rock und Rock ’n’ Roll positioniert.
Und das Konzept geht auf: Der Opener „Hello, Hello, Hello“ lädt mit klassischen Rock ’n’ Roll-Gitarrenelementen zu ihrer Show ein. Bei dem Sound folgt man der Einladung gern. Mit „(Meet Me) On The Rocks“ geht es ordentlich weiter. Das Gitarrensolo im 70er Jahre Stil peppt den Song mächtig auf. Etwas stärker Blues- und Carlos Santana orientiert zeigt sich „Lady Pink“. Die übrigen Songs, auch die etwas ruhigeren, fügen sich zu einem runden und authentischen Rock ’n’ Roll-Paket zusammen. Stimmlich gehen die Chillihounds etwas in Richtung Glen Danzig, was den musikalischen Charakter bestens unterstreicht.
„Welcome To The Show“ ist eine solide Platte, die die Fans des 70er Jahre Rock ’n’ Rolls durchaus ansprechen sollte. Auch das CD-Design im Vinyl-Look passt sehr gut zum Gesamtkonzept.

Chillihounds från Göteborg bjuder inte på någonting nyskapande, innovativt eller progressivt. Däremot förvaltar de svunna decenniers hård party-rock n´ roll med den äran. Det svänger ett gäng om den här plattan och nästa gång polarna kommer över för att dricka bärs och ladda inför en rejäl utekväll på stan kommer Chillihounds få ta hand om stämningen. Gabriel Aadlands röst påminner mig om Glenn Danzigs, men där slutar likheterna med modern hårdrock. Bandet har till och med spelat in The Album i en analog studio, vilket var ett mycket lyckat drag då musiken fått en värme och det eftersträvansvärda retrosoundet av gediget 70-tal. Ska man jämföra Chillihounds med andra band ligger AC/DC, australiensiska Buffalo, Tiger B. Smith och kanske även Dictators närmast. Verserna bygger mest på gitarrriff som upprepas till ett svängigt komp och refrängerna är melodiska med riktiga sångmelodier. Det är ett vettigt upplägg som varken gör musiken mesig eller svår att ta till sig. Förmodligen kommer en del tycka att Chillihounds låtar är för simpla, men vad fan, it´s only rock n roll and I like it, som Jagger sjöng -74. Och de här killarna vet hur man skriver träffsäkra stänkare som sätter sig i solar plexus. Som helhet är The Album en rätt jämn platta dessutom, utan plats för några bottennapp. Inget nytt under solen, men ett gediget hantverk.

Il roster di band internazionali della Nicotine Records si allarga sempre di più, prediligendo band svedesi come i Chillihounds, figli di quella scuola hard rock scandinava che continua a sfornare talenti. "The Album" è il debutto dei quattro rocker vichinghi che attingono alla tradizione seventies, e lo si sente da subito con il brano "Black muddy wolf". Ottimi assoli si mischiano ad una voce potente ma melodica e a riff granitici che vanno ad elevare veri muri di chitarra. "Strutting queen" sembra un omaggio ai Kiss mentre la frenesia del rock'n'roll emerge in "Love sweet love".

L'impostazione metal di alcuni dei componenti della band non tarda a farsi sentire. Dieci sono le tracce di "The album", un disco forse non particolarmente originale, ma dall'ottimo impatto rock senza inutili fronzoli e con quel piglio svedese che sembra scorrere davvero nelle vene di tutti i musicisti del nord europa. Un altro centro targato Nicotine Records.

Lo stile è quello della nicotine,super hard rock urlato,Glucifer + Hellacopters con i fantasmi degli AC/DC e dei T-Rex a svolazzare alle spalle del quartetto che arriva,guarda caso,dalla Svezia.
Certamente nulla di nuovo sotto il sole,chitarre incazzate e sound pesantissimo che negli anni '70 ha affondato le sue radici.Ma qualcosa di veramente bello c'è:un pezzo come" Strutting queen" a la cosiddetta marcia in più e suonato a volume adeguato può dare salutari in questa estate bollente,meglio del ventilatore

I Chillhounds mi sono subito stati simpatici. Andando sul myspace per procurarami un po' di notizie biografiche ho visto che tra gli amici hanno Angus Young, Status Quo e Rancid, cioè tre dei miei amori giovanili e infatti il loro suono più o meno si rifà ai tre aritsti citati. L'esordio presso la nostrana Nicotine Records è un disco pieno zeppo di riferimenti all'hard Rock, di ogni decade, anche se loro dicono di ispirarsi solo ai 70. "Black Muddy Walf", il pezzo d'apertura, è un boogie rock molto derivativo dei Cult specialmente nell'uso della voce, così come la successiva "Die With You" il cui riff granitico, con tanto di solo tamarro di chitarra a inizio brano, sembra essere presa direttamente da "Sonic Temple". "Strutting Queen" invece è una deliziosa canzoncina a metà tra vecchi Def Leppard e Ac/Dc. Insomma ci siamo capiti. Un po' di questo (hard), un po' di quello (blues rock). Il risultato finale è ambiguo. Di nuovo non c'è assolutamente nulla anche se gli svedesi sanno suonare, conoscono benissimo i generi in cui si trastullano e le canzoni sono tutte godibili, per chi ama il genere. Bello persino il bluesaccio di "Dancing Devils", banale forse ma verace. Non c'è molto da dire, Chi non ascolta questi suoni non se ne innamorerà certo grazie a loro mentre chi apprezza l'hard rock farà bene a procurarsi questo disco.

“The Spirit of 75”…basta entrare nel sito dei Chillihounds per capire immediatamente la loro fonte di ispirazione ancora prima di ascoltare il loro disco di debutto The Album. Tanto per dirne qualcuna in quell’anno escono pietre miliari come High Voltage”degli AC/DC, Sabotage dei Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden degli Iron Maiden (che debuttano proprio nel 1975), e soprattutto Dressed To Kill e Alive dei Kiss. The Album è un disco pieno zeppo di influenze seventies, legate soprattutto alle linee melodiche del più classico hard rock. Non male per dei novellini, che partono a raffica con brani come l’opener “Black Muddy Wolf”, “Die With You” e “Love Sweet Love”, rallentando il ritmo con “Dancing Devils” e “Mighty Mouse”. Molto più classica “Struttig Queen”. A mio parere “Femanimal” e “Chillihounds” sono le song che forse più rappresentano l’essenza di questa band, che speriamo di vedere presto dalle nostre parti.

Enfin, toujours en provenance des fjords suédois glacés, les quatre compères de Chillihounds sont tombés profond dans une marmite de gros Rock’n’Roll en ébullition quand ils étaient chiards. Ce qui est vachement triquant là-dedans, c’est qu’il nous en font profiter aujourd’hui. Leur galette, répondant au substantif ultra-inventif de « The Album », est un mélange détonnant de gros Pub-Rock groovy et de Hard seventies plombé. Si vous avez passé une partie de votre vie à parcourir ce vaste monde à la recherche du joyau noir qui dépote pile-poil à la croisée des sentiers houblonnés de Doctor Feelgood, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC et du Slaughter And The Dogs des débuts, abandonnez dès aujourd’hui cette quête un brin périlleuse et laissez vos genoux cagneux s’entrechoquer implacablement sous les assauts rythmiques de Chillihounds. Au vu de la qualité et de l’énergie de leur son trapu, je suis même prêt à faire l’impasse sur leurs velléités hippies revendiquées (« We need soul, that’s what I’m talking about, a peaceloving movement like back in 75 », yep !).
