WHETHER IT be Strokes, Beatings or Libertines, you name a rock 'n' roll-loving 'The' band, we've got it. Yet there's no need to throw the bad ass out of the bath water. And despite associations with the latest hell for leather hellions The Datsuns (they're both heading out as support on The Hellacopters' UK jaunt), the Gaza Strippers are a fast-paced act you'd be a fool to write off.
Fronted by Rick Sims, this US quartet have pure adrenaline rock pumping through their addictive melodies and will have you gyrating and pulsating
from first listen. Each impressive and incessant track pounds from wiry solo to raucous riff, battering blues around the chorus repeatedly. In a garage glam whirlwind of rock star shapes, shades, bowler hats, polka dot print shirts and ties; the Gaza Strippers are an explosive proposition.

Hopefully, you don’t need Gaza Strippers explained to you. Ok, to summarize, Rick Sims released five records with The Didgets for Touch & Go and "Killboy Powerhead" was covered by The Offspring on Smash, then he was in Supersuckers, then he started Gaza Strippers who’ve had CDs on Man’s Ruin and Lookout!, and EPs on Triple X, Scotland’s Twenty Stone Blatt, and now Italy’s Nicotine Records. Oh, and they’ve been on at least one Fistful of Rock’n’Roll comp. They also have sexy CD covers. And they rock. So are we done with the history lesson? Simply put, Rick’s got a distinctive voice, somehow mixing Styx, Cheap Trick, and helium (the gas, not the band) into a rock voice. And he’s a legend, so any rocker in their right mind’ll play with him, so his band rips. Compare ’em to Cheap Trick or G’N’R or The Hellacopters or any other rock band who can play tight’n’tricky while hitting on your girlfriend and drinkin’ your beer and you get the point. From the Desk of Dr. Freepill is an expanded EP, basically, cuz of the 10 songs presented, one’s a cover of Queen’s "Sheer Heart Attack," another’s Blue Öyster Cult’s "Me262," and the final three songs are live in Sweden (and available elsewhere), including Love And Rocket’s "Yin and Yang the Flowerpot Man." Everything Gaza Strippers do is worth hearing and probably owning.

Guitarist/vocalist Rick Sims is becoming a well-respected, underground musician. He gained his first experiences in the punk rock scene as a member of the band the Didjits. But his real step
into the limelight was when he joined the band Supersuckers. With that band he earned himself a steady following of punk rock and rock'n'roll fans. With his new band Gaza Strippers,he focuses
himself more on the '70s glam and hard rock than the more rock-'n'-roll-and sleazerock-minded Supersuckers. And this focus on '70s hard rock can not only be heard in the music of Gaza
Strippers, but also can be seen in the choice of covers.Queen ('Sheer Heart Attack') and Blue Öyster Cult ('Me262') are given a more punk feel on this third album by the foursome. The last three of the ten songs on From the Desk of Dr. Freepill are recorded live in Sweden, but I only noticed that after the first live song, when Sims calls for Jesus, because "there was some sinning going on in the bus." The only minor point about this high-grade and energetic album is the guitar solo that functions as an intro for the Love And Rockets cover 'Yin And Yang.' It's ugly, too long, and thus takes the speed out of this high-geared album. It's also redundant, because they already proved they master their instruments very well. But this slip is forgiven, because From The Desk Of Dr. Freepill is one of the best mixtures of hard rock, punk, and rock 'n' roll I've heard in years. I'm curious if the Hellacopters can top this on their new album.

Beautifull stroke by Italian Nicotine Records, that succeeds to put under contract an excellent group of rock 'n' roll like the Gaza Stripper been, derived some years ago from the issolution of the Didjits- group that already had experienced to adapt hard rock to a more Indie conception just like the now forgotten Urgent Overkill- the group guided from rockr the stainless Rick Sims evidence again with a collection that alternate new songs, for more in I furrow of modern rock' n' roll (beautiful "Rodan" in the Cheaptrick way ) and others recorded on live (" Yin And Yang" shows a delirant guitar solo). With a classic cover of the Blue Oyster Cult, "Me 262", to give additional value to the product. If I must find a defect to the Gaza Stripper, I would characterize it in the always equal way that they have of " subject " the several songs(another aesthetically always impeccable) much to turn out to the aim, monochromiums

Rick Sims is an important person in the latest American punk scene. He was the Didjist leader that released 5 albums, between '80 and '90 and for a little time a Supersuckers member;from 5 years he's thefrontman of a new derailing band "Gaza Strippers" Laced Candy(1998,Man's Ruin) and 1000 Watt Confession(2000 Lookout!),Elettric Bible The New testament(2001 Triplex)W TESTAMENT
