Biography
Johnny Casino's Easy Action was born in the hostiles city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the corner of Front and Girard Streets -- a nasty hood in the "City of Brotherly Love". They're an unlikely lot which gathered together in a practice space underneath "The El".Outside: Deals were dealt and tricks were turned as the squealing "all stops" rattled the tracks, overhead. Inside: a style of music as gritty and real as the world outside was erupting through the cheap and nasty PA, much to the delight of a heavily tattooed, gravel-voiced mastermind.The band is the brainchild of the Cosmic Commander: part-time wrestling manager, full-time BELIEVER! The Commander was responsible for the long-distance phone call to his mate, Johnny Casino. Casino, a rambling, gambling man, needed no convincing, and booked a ticket on the next plane to Philly. Those two, along with Casino's brother, Grahame Deluxe, Phillys Steve and Kevin McCarthy, and John "The Kid" Ilesco, formed Johnny Casino's Easy Action.Soon after, the band had performed dozens of shows up and down the East Coast of America, and recorded and album with the legendary Joe Deluca, at New Jersey's "Why Me" recording studio. This 11-tracker, We Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know. A scorching rock'n'roll record, full of blistering guitar workouts and diverse vocals that range from soulful to menacing, and a rhythm and groove that just won't quit.The smart people at WFMU radio caught wind of what was happening, and got the band in the studio to play for over 6 million people in New York City. The hour-long performance shook the WFMU studios to its foundations and melted paint off of the walls. |
