ReviewsBroken Mojo by The Barman - i94bar - www.i94bar.com Fractured garage-punk-pop from an Italian four-piece. Not sure who they're referencing but there are touches of the Funhouse Stooges and all manner of jazz punk (especially in the bass and drums interplay.) "Street Stalker" gets along on the back of some quirky guitar while "Be Alright Now" has touches of garage snot being blown out of Steve Mackay's sax while the engine room does its own thing. The flipside's a bit more straight-ahead and easier to relate to. Interesting in places, if not all that arresting. Broken Mojo - nobrainsrecords - www.nobrainsrecords.com It's not really easy to describe the sound of Most Unusual Sound. Well, it isn't that unusual, but it's pretty strange. "Street Stalker" is some kinda mix between garage punk and power pop with here and there some indie/alter rock influences. It's good song and I like it. Unfortunately I don't really dig "Be Allright Now!" - it's more indie rock with strange (free jazzy) sax. But for somebody who likes this kind of stuff it would probably be good - it's just my taste. And again we have one more 7" where the B side is better than A (or maybe it's just my stupid or crazy taste). "Broken Mojo" reminds me a lot of Velvet Underground ("White Light White Heat"), but it's more garage and 77 punk. Anyway if you want to hear something little bit different from ordinary garage punk/trash or indie/alter rock stuff - try Most Unusual Sound, you may like it. |
